LED Light Skin Therapy

Written by Glownar Aesthetics | Sep 14, 2020 3:40:22 PM

LED light therapy is a popular non-invasive skin treatment for acne, sun damage, wounds, and other skin problems. People can choose to have LED light therapy at a dermatologist’s office or at home. The treatment uses varying wavelengths of light to trigger the skin’s natural healing processes and repair the skin.

LED stands for light-emitting diode. These lights have been in use since the 1960s, but have been used for skin treatments recent years. NASA originally developed LED lights for plant growth experiments in space. Since then, research into LEDs has revealed promising results in wound healing and human tissue growth. Different wavelengths of light in LED lights, including blue and red, penetrate the skin at different depths, triggering biological processes that help the skin naturally rejuvenate and heal from the inside out.

During a professional treatment, a dermatologist or esthetician may ask a client to lie down under LED lights, or they may manually use an LED wand on the skin. Each session lasts approximately 20 minutes, and up to 10 sessions may be necessary for the best results. Patients may need to return periodically for maintenance sessions. Following treatment, no recovery time is necessary.

 Red LED Light

Red LED light penetrates the skin at a depth of 650-950nm. Red light therapy works from the inside-out to enhance mitochondrial function in cells. This, in turn, yields several skin benefits. Red light decreases skin inflammation, smooths skin tone, repairs sun damage, fades scars and stretch marks, and even promotes collagen production in the skin, which reduces wrinkles and erases signs of aging.

ORANGE LED LIGHT

Orange LED light reaches a skin depth of 600-650nm. Orange light therapy is an ideal option to increase energy production in cells and accelerate metabolism. Orange light may also help restore glow and radiance to dull skin.

YELLOW LED LIGHT

Yellow LED light reaches 570-600nm into the skin. People with sensitive skin will benefit from the soothing and calming effect of yellow light therapy. If you are looking for a solution for skin conditions such as UV radiation damage, rosacea, flushing, redness, and inflammation, yellow light therapy is the right choice for you

GREEN LED LIGHT

Green LED light reaches a skin depth of 495-570nm. Green LED light has a calming effect on the skin and has been proven to assist in reducing melasma and other issues of skin discoloration. The wavelengths of the green LED light target melanocytes, or melanin-producing cells, at the bottom layer of the epidermis. By targeting melanocytes, excess melanin is blocked from traveling to the surface of the skin. This breaks up clusters of pigment and therefore diminishes any existing unwanted hyperpigmentation.

BLUE LED LIGHT

Blue LED light penetrates the skin at a depth of 450-495nm. Blue LED light has been proven to use powerful antibacterial properties to kill acne-causing bacteria, thus preventing and treating any existing acne simultaneously. Helping to successfully treat active breakouts, prevent future breakouts, and diminish the appearance of lines and wrinkles, blue light has a variety of applicable uses. Blue light also helps to purify the skin, stabilize oil glands, and soothe inflammation.

PURPLE LED LIGHT

Purple LED light reaches a skin depth of 380-450nm. Purple LED light is a combination of blue and red light. The main function of purple light is to increase cell regeneration.  Infrared rays penetrate deep into the skin to promote healing and relieve deep muscular or joint pain. Combining the benefits of red light and blue light supports the treatment of acne with anti-bacterial effects, all while stimulating collagen production to treat lines and wrinkles.

WHITE LED LIGHT

White LED reaches a depth of 510nm. White light is used for its variety of skin rejuvenating benefits, including tightening and toning the skin, healing acne scars, erasing sun damage or dark spots, and reducing inflammation. The accelerated skin recovery benefits of white LED light can also be extremely beneficial for people with acne. Multiple sessions will yield the best results and can prevent the signs of aging for future glowing, youthful skin.
